ClusterVision Becomes Cray Reseller and Receives Order for Cray XD1™ Supercomputer from TNO

ClusterVision, specialist in Linux supercomputer clusters, has become a Cray Channel Partner to sell the Cray XD1™ supercomputer in the Benelux. ClusterVision has also received their first Cray XD1 order from TNO Science and Industry. The 36 AMD Opteron™ processor Cray XD1 will soon be installed at TNO in Delft where it will be used for research into ultrasound and flow acoustics.

After a thorough selection process, Cray selected ClusterVision as their reseller of the Cray XD1 supercomputer in the Benelux. ClusterVision has added the Cray XD1 system to their product portfolio which already includes compute, storage and database clusters based on Intel® and AMD processors.

"ClusterVision's impressive track record and reputation for technical expertise and customer care made them an obvious candidate to be Cray Channel Partner for the Cray XD1 supercomputer in the Benelux", said Bill Turner, Cray's manager for channel partnerships. "ClusterVision adds local presence and support to the superior performance and scalability of the Cray XD1 product line. Together we offer an exceptional solution for HPC users."

TNO Science and Industry has extensive expertise in the design and inspection of complex industrial installations. An often used inspection method is based on ultrasound. TNO has developed several numerical simulation codes for the realistic simulation of ultrasound measurements. Another application developed by TNO is that of the prediction of aero-acoustic noise, such as sound in and around pressure regulators in piping systems and interior noise in cars resulting from the turbulent flow around the car body, the rear-view mirror and wind-screen wipers.

Ir Maurits van der Heiden, scientist at TNO, comments "The Cray XD1 is very suitable for our computational intensive research and has a very favourable price/performance ratio. The procurement of the powerful Cray XD1 from ClusterVision together with our simulation codes gives TNO a unique position in the European market for this type of applied research."
