ClusterVision Reports Best Year to Date
ClusterVision, specialist in supercomputer clusters, today announced its best year to date as leading supplier of Linux supercomputer clusters in Europe. The year 2006 brought a doubling of net sales and the award of several multi-million euro contracts. ClusterVision also increased its market share as a result of new customer wins and considerable repeat business from existing customers.
The year 2006 saw the start of a very fruitful partnership with IBM. In June, a ClusterVision led consortium with IBM and ClearSpeed Technology was awarded the contract for three high performance Linux compute clusters at the University of Bristol. The largest of the three clusters will be one of the fastest university research computers in the UK, and is expected to be one of the top 100 computers of its type in the world. Following this high-profile project, ClusterVision has won several other contracts in partnership with IBM in various European countries.
The year 2006 also saw the start of a very fruitful partnership with Dell. ClusterVision worked with Dell to build a 18.27 TFLOP/s supercomputer for the University of Cambridge. The supercomputer has more than 1152 Dual-Core Intel® Xeon®5160 processors and features in the November 2006 TOP500 as the number 20 fastest supercomputer in the world. ClusterVision have since been working with Dell on several other projects, again in various European countries, following this TOP500 success story.

In April 2006, ClusterVision was awarded the contract to build the DAS-3 grid (Distributed ASCI Supercomputer). The DAS-3 grid has a unique design with five Linux supercomputer clusters, hosted at four leading Dutch universities, directly connected from their Myricom Myri-10G cluster switches to the state-of-the-art Dutch academic dynamic multi-colour optical network. The DAS-3 grid is called "The Fastest Grid in the World" because of the extremely high bandwidth, low latency networks inside as well as between the clusters.
Furthermore, ClusterVision made a successful entry into the French market, winning orders from the Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique (CEA) and the Laboratoire Bordelais de Recherche en Informatique (LABRI) at the Université Bordeaux I, where ClusterVision is working in partnership with IBM.
ClusterVision's successful entry into the German market in 2005 continued in 2006 with more installations at several Max Planck Institutes and universities.
ClusterVision launched its twice-yearly newsletter ClusterVision NEWS in June 2006, with news on hardware and software and case studies of successful cluster installations. ClusterVision NEWS is published during the International Supercomputer Conference in Germany in June and during the Supercomputer Conference in the USA in November. It has a circulation of 10,000 copies including universities, research institutes and companies all over the world. For a free subscription to ClusterVision NEWS, send an email to .
The achievements throughout 2006 have enabled ClusterVision to start a substantial investment program in order to further expand its business, grow its sales and engineering teams across Europe, as well as expand its development team in Amsterdam who are working on both the current and next-generation ClusterVisionOS™ software.
