 What We Do

ClusterVision is specialised in the design, build and implementation of high performance compute, storage and database clusters. The clusters are built using commodity server hardware and the Linux-based ClusterVisionOS™ operating system and software environment. Our clusters are used by researchers and engineers in universities, research institutes and companies.

ClusterVision's head office is in Amsterdam with further offices located in Gloucester, Munich, Paris, Geneva, Milano and Oslo, covering the whole of Europe. We also supply clusters to customers outside Europe upon request.

 Why We Are Unique

ClusterVision is the only European company operating in many different European countries and having clusters as its core business. All our business processes including sales, production and support are setup specifically for the cluster business and all ClusterVision's management and staff are focused on providing the best cluster hardware, software, services and support.

ClusterVision is independent of any hardware manufacturer. We have supplied clusters based on hardware from so-called white-box manufacturers but also from IBM and Dell.

ClusterVision has a strong background in research and engineering with its founders and several of its staff having fulfilled PhDs in computer science or computational intensive applied scientific fields. This helps us to understand scientist's computational challenges and design the best possible clusters to solve those challenges.

 Our Success

ClusterVision has built some of the largest and most complex clusters in Europe, including the number 20 fastest supercomputer in the world (www.top500.org).

We always strive to be — and have proven to be — at the forefront of clustering technology. We were the first in the UK to deliver clusters based on the AMD Opteron™ processor (both single- and dual-core) and the first in Europe to deliver a production ready InfiniBand cluster. We delivered the largest, on installation, Intel® EM64T cluster in the UK and we delivered the first cluster in Europe based on ClearSpeed technology.

ClusterVision invests substantially in testing new HPC technologies and has won a number of awards for its technological and entrepreneurial achievements, including:
  • Vosko Trofee "Technological Breakthrough"
  • Intermediair top 20 most innovative companies in the Netherlands;
  • Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) Enterprise Award for Dutch-British export;
  • Deloitte Rising Star "Runner Up" Award

 ClusterVisionOS™

The ClusterVisionOS™ is our most important added value. We invest in it constantly, having several software developers working on it full time to keep it up-to-date with the latest hardware and software technologies and to improve functionality.

It was designed to ease the use and management of small and large clusters and runs on almost all the clusters we supply. The ClusterVisionOS is built using five main ingredients: 1) a Linux distribution, such as SuSE, Red Hat, Debian or Scientific Linux; 2) many changes and configurations we apply to the Linux distribution; 3) third-party open source software such as MPI libraries and queuing systems; 4) third-party commercial software such as compilers; 5) and last, but not least, cluster management tools written by us. Read more about the ClusterVisionOS here.
